UNIDO ETRACE PROJECT

UNIDO's ETRACE Project in Egypt (2004- )

Based on the discussion held with UNIDO/Traceability Project’s staff in Egypt we mange to define the criteria and specific requirements needed to select the right software that will fit for the Egyptian fresh produce sector, these criteria where driven by the following :

  1. Continued globalization of agriculture – intense competition
  2. Food security requirements – increased need for compliance and traceability
  3. Increased focus on quality and processes of control

Based on this, the software should support the:

  1. Continuous increase in scale and scope (continuity of supply) of the fresh produce sector.
  2. Expanded use of “industrial practices”
  3. Process control
  4. Outsourcing
  5. Risk management
  6. Multi-location operations
  7. Product characteristics
  8. Quality control
  9. Larger farms, and coordinated groups separated by geography and diversity
  10. More direct relationships with customers
  11. Better “high resolution” management tools
Selecting Modules for Implementation: Due to the requirements of traceability system and as per the analysis meetings and presentations conducted with the project consultant and the definitions of the requirements, a set of procedures has been established to cover the work flow as will as the functionality required from any application to be implemented and as bases for selecting the right solution. Within the software technology the select application should provide, a comprehensive and integrated process solution that cover the following areas:
  1. Stock Arrival/ Incoming Harvest
  2. Information regarding the intake
  3. Packing Labor
  4. Quality Control / QC
  5. Value Add & Complex Processing
  6. Pallet Control
  7. Tracking of Pallets & Inventory
  8. Packing Priority Control
  9. Consignment
  10. Advanced Pack house Management & Grower Returns
  11. HACCP and other GMP systems and controls
  12. Pack house- Financial Reports
  13. Pack house Inventory
  14. Pack house Alerts
